of Prayer
Friday 30 May - Pentecost Sunday 8 June
This Pentecost we believe God is calling us to pray in unity during the 10 Days leading up to Pentecost Sunday (the days of the original Upper Room prayer meeting). We continue to build on the 28 years of Transform Reading and the prayer that has gone before. God hears our prayers.
Please use the prayer guide below as a way of praying together, whether you are on your own, with friends or using it in your church or organisation. Our theme is 'Taking the Ground' - something the Holy Spirit has been talking to us about in recent weeks. Our goal is still Reading transformed by the Kingdom of Heaven.

10 Days of Prayer Pentecost 2025 Prayer Guide
Days 1-4 What God has been saying

Day 1 Friday 30 May - Taking the ground
2 Chronicles 14:7
The land is still ours because we have sought the Lord our God

-
Give thanks for 28 years of Transform Reading and prayer for Reading over many years
-
We have sought the Lord, the land is ours – we can have confidence to go again. Let’s keep praying
-
Pray for the church to have renewed zeal and confidence in our Lord to bring his kingdom
Day 2 Saturday 31 May - Casting the nets on the other side
Luke 5:4-6
When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break.

-
Fishing was their area of expertise, but this time their human strategies hadn’t worked. Pray for us to listen for God’s ways forward, and for courage to do things his way
-
Ask God to energise us where we are weary, with his word and power

Day 3 Sunday 1 June - Return to first love
Revelation 2:2-5
I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked people, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false. You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary. Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first. Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place.

-
Thank God for the things He has enabled us to do well
-
Ask God to search our hearts and show us where we’ve left our first love
-
Repent and pray for God’s people in this town to love Jesus as we did when we first met him

Day 4 Monday 2 June - Unity
John 17:20-23
“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one — I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me."

-
Pray that our unity is not just functional but a deeper relational unity
-
Pray for God’s supernatural unity in the church in Reading to grow and grow
Days 5-9 Praying for Reading
For the King of Glory to enter in . . .
Psalm 24:7-10
Lift up your heads, you gates;
be lifted up, you ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in.
Who is this King of glory?
The Lord strong and mighty,
the Lord mighty in battle.
Lift up your heads, you gates;
lift them up, you ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in.
Who is he, this King of glory?
The Lord Almighty—
he is the King of glory.

Day 10 Sunday 8 June Pentecost
Acts 2 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from
heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them…
…Those who accepted his message were baptised, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.
• Holy Spirit, overwhelm us with your power and life
• Pray for a mass turning to God through Jesus across our town so we have a serious capacity issue!
• Pray for God’s people to be ready
